About NovaOrbitX
NovaOrbitX is a UK space-tech startup founded in 2025 by an aerospace engineer and EO systems specialist with over 12 years in satellite data, AI, and funded research. We transform freely available Copernicus satellite data into regulator-ready intelligence for the UK financial sector.
Why we exist
When Storm Babet struck the UK in October 2023, it caused insured losses of £450–600 million. Councils and insurers were criticised for relying on outdated flood maps. Claims handlers spent weeks on manual surveys. Banks discovered properties in their mortgage books had flooded in zones classified as low risk.
Copernicus Sentinel-1 SAR satellites had already observed all of it — within hours. NovaOrbitX was founded to bridge the gap between what satellites see and what regulators, lenders, and insurers need to act on.
